CritSheetPre-Session Brief

Before Session 13

The Tomb of Annihilation

Previously on The Tomb of Annihilation

The party stood before the ancient serpent Saja and Baza, who unveiled the dark saga of the paladin-turned-Yuan-ti-warlord Rosni and handed out powerful charms before vanishing along with a shrine that turned out to have been abandoned for two centuries. On the road home, reality itself glitched as the fae showman Glitter Smack hijacked the party's journey, revealing their exploits have been broadcast as 'Gnarly Delve of the Week.' The session ended on a cliffhanger with Doc, trapped in his frog body, pleading to a skeptical live audience that he really is who he says he is.

The Story So Far

Hired by the dying Syndra Sylvain to hunt down the Soul Monger and end the death curse ravaging Faerun, the party has crossed jungle, plateau, and ziggurat, losing Fridge and nearly losing Doc along the way before his soul was saved and rehoused in a grung body. They now know the death curse and the Black Death panther both trace back to Rosni, a fallen paladin who lost control of an undead army and now rules the sunken city of Omu as a Yuan-ti warlord, blocking the vanished city of Mezro from returning. Fresh off a gift of powerful charms from the guardian Saja and Baza, the party is being pulled into a bizarre new complication: a multi-week dungeon delve gauntlet forced on them by the cosmic game show host Glitter Smack.

Open Threads

  • The party agreed to complete a six-level 'Gnarly Delve' dungeon series for Glitter Smack, starting with the Toxic Grotto.
  • Doc has 30 seconds to prove his identity to a skeptical live studio audience before the delve began.
  • Artis Cimber arranged to reconvene with the party at the wrecked ship Star Goddess using the cold sending stone he gave them.
  • Nanny Poo Poo let Doc and Thrain go on the promise they would bring back someone else in her place, and the party's resurrected terrafolk companion is still losing 4 HP per day.
  • The party planned to detour toward the swamp and the mountain rumored to be the heart of a dead god before returning to Port Nyanzaru to sell rare monster parts.
  • Saja and Baza offered to tell the party of a greater danger if they sit and listen, a conversation cut short by the shrine's revelation as centuries-abandoned.
